I’ve been collecting vegetable seed packets for years because I love the illustration and colours, thing is, they were in storage for 15 years and all went mouldy…
Just had to show you this…I was podding the late and too stringy runner beans on another rainy day to experiment with drying my own seed. Joy oh joy to find another colour other than stormy grey…it cheered me up no end.
Busy making chutney out of those ludicrous marrows that lurk unseen…I finally used my huge 2 year old one, it had the most beautiful secret black green…

Nothing much grew after the ridiculous ice storms in may, MAY! I mean really… But it did make me look closer at the greens…next year I’m going to grow hundreds of peas and broad beans, not only for their exquisite sweet tastes but to marvel at those hidden gorgeous greens…I did a lot of podding in the porch…
The beetroots were a great success! Wish I could remember the type. Perfect spheres…
Wish I’d taken a before-shot…freshly dug and a bucket of water splashed their browns into zinging orange! It took my breath away. It was a great year for carrots, despite my low weeding and thinning attendance…fat and huge and juicy…just had to choose a blue crate to put the carrots in…the perfect colour, would’ve disappointed in brown…
Just managed to collect enough elderflower heads off the storm whipped tree, just enough I hope to make a fragrant cordial last till summer….
They grew! Amazing…time to replant I think…I am so proud..I love cooking with shallots…the garlic didn’t do much, but looked pretty on the pink plate…
I’ve been making all sorts of rhubarb cakes and puddings…I love rhubarb, just love it…
