BLOG: Steve Jobs : Amsterdam 7.10.11

IMG_5083.jpg

“The People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do”

In Amsterdam : This morning I cycled for coffee…I didn’t know the black hoardings were hiding the new Apple Centre on Leidseplein…already hundreds of people of any age had signed their respect and admiration to Steve Jobs. It’s poignant. Couldn’t have been in a more relevant place when I read the papers. A design cafe full of macs and iphoned workers. How many individuals are so publicly mourned. What a believer. What a visionary.

x4 EXHIBITIONS in 2 barns : Arts Festival 2011

c_Page_3.jpg

I wanted to show a bit of what I do and who I am, to the village, and to show with bursting pride the 2 year progress of the Adult Art classes I’ve been running here… Always up for a performance or presentation… I took the chance to transform 2 full and dusty barns into interesting exhibition spaces, industrial style. To show my 3d collage Seascapes; my plastic makes from things all washed up on the shores and at home, part of a large scale project and book I’m working on; my drawings of my vegetables I grew last year made in to prints for sale, and in barn 2, the students’ work to be bombastically hung to wow! And it did..

ARTWORKS: Seascapes 2

artworks11.jpg

Some of the 3d collage pieces made from wood found here on the local beaches of Argyll, Scotland. I’ve been collecting washed up wood for over 3 years…(thanks mum for letting me dry it all on the aga and under floor heated tiles…) This new series uses my precious 50′s collection of cocktail stick bathing beauties and 50′s salt and pepper pot boat amongst other odd lost+found bits…

ART : KIDS : Papermache Parrots!

IMG_3721.jpg

Over 25 kids came by to get covered in glue and newspaper…then we hung the parrots up to dry, just when mum’s aga broke down again. Homebase’s wallpaper paste (normally I make my paste out of flour and water) proved the least sticky glue ever, I pity the people hanging wallpaper…so after rapid mending by mum and the family, I painted them white, ready to paint. Another hanging out to dry…ready to have a strip of velcro glued to wear at the Village Pirate Parade…

ART : KIDS : Ships in Bottles!

IMG_3427 copy.jpg

I ran 6 making workshops for kids through the Arts Festival this year. Luckily it was hot so we could dry the enthusiastically applied dripping paint outside, more luckily the mums stayed to help and were brilliant in the face of self expression and glue guns. I was trying out some ideas from a book I’m working on…I brought in my huge collections of wood and plastic and toy bits…no wonder they dont do this in schools! Well done to all the kids for making some fabulous creations and to those who helped to clear up…

ART : KIDS : Pirates in Bottles!

IMG_3676.jpg

…again, trying out a few ideas from my LOOKBOOK in progress, during the local Arts Festival…the kids also saw what I’d made in the allwashedup! Beach Hut (see Recent Posts) in the Exhibition Barns…I just needed more energy to put on an exhibition in the Hut of your work, next time, for what you made was fantastic! Again, thankyou to the mums who stayed and keep eyes alert for those glue guns and fingers and help find those very particular pieces of requested plastic…

ART : KIDS : Stick Creatures!

IMG_3474.jpg

Thank goodness it was hot and sunny. The thickly dripping paint needed it. I’d collected and dried hundreds of washed up sticks on the local shores (again, thanks mum for letting me dry them all over your under floor heated tiles). So many of them looked like strange creatures, with eyes and tongues..it gave me an idea…
