The Summer Exhibition: private view 2011

I emailed 2 invites; for my 3 exhibitions in barn 1 and the “I can’t draw…” exhibition in barn 2 to the whole village…

The Art Team delivered 180 A5 hand-made invitations printed, inked, chalked or drawn on 300gsm etching  paper in a handsome handwritten off-white enevlope, all responding to the brief ‘Hedgerow Daisy’ in black and white, the last flower growing here after the may ice storms. I wanted to give a quality invitation for a quality show. This was their first ever ‘commercial’ brief. They only saw the whole idea at the end. It worked as a good series; as always, fascinating to see the individual responses within a theme…

It was a great event! Over 200 people came. SENSATIONAL some would say! A great buzz full of energy, full of joy and fun they all said. I was in a sober haze, having worked up to the very last minute. The Art Team arrived only 15 minutes for champagne before, and were amazed (I’d banned them from the barn hanging). My brother appeared from Edinburgh in between jobs to take pix…thank you to Shannon! what a home team support, what generosity, what immense effort. A huge thank you to Paul and Mary for sorting, setting up and running an elegant bar so beautifully served and attended to. I couldn’t have done it without you. Well done Art Team for making elegant round things to eat (I’d asked for round to contrast the square grid hanging system), they wondered why…it was a fantastic summer evening full of smiles…
